The Festival of Ancient Ilida was established in 1991 by the “Society of Friends of Ancient Ilida”, who decided to “bring back” to the present the prestige of the city that organized the ancient Olympic Games. Performances take place in the new 1000-seats Theatre built inside the archaeological site of Ilida, in the Chlemoutsi castle as well as in Saint Sofia of Andravida. Apart from the protection and promotion of the archaeological site of Ancient Ilida, the “Society of Friends of Ancient Ilida” aims, in their own words, “to the restoration of the crumbled monumental web of Ilida and the promotion of its historical importance” (See: www.amaliada.gr).
